Sadly it's almost certainly going to be Ohmori. We don't have third versions anymore, so the base games will always remain fucked.

We do have hopes for remakes and DLC, at least. Ohmori probably won't do any more remakes now he's working on the main games.

BW were incredibly divisive after launch. Lot of people were pissed that you couldn't catch old Pokemon until the postgame. To me, that was the best part. Being forced to use new Pokemon is what every game should do.
I think the closeness to the 3DS launch also hurt the games. I remember there being gripes about how they were starting a new generation at the DS' death. Add in some felt the game was too linear (the first ones were a bit on that side), the vitriol for the dex (objectmons, Kanto retreads) and you get a pretty good view of why the games were so low on sales.
I think it's widely accepted the "failure" of BW is a big reason why GameFreak is playing it safe nowadays and why you see so much Kantobait in games. After all, why do something new when people will keep paying for what they loved before?>>45267753

Tani should be in charge going forward, or at least be heavily involved in world design going forward. Keep him in as field planner but actually let him flex his chops, which they clearly didn't let him or didn't want him to do in the base game.

All he really did was build upon something that already exist. For all we know, if it came down to him constructing a whole new region and a narrative to follow it which include gym leaders, a few legendaries, an evil team, a man antagonist, and a dozen towns and routes, he could fuck all that up. All he needed to do was make an island and a 1 to 3 hour story (along with other little things).

Not really. The Wild Areas are brand new. The stories in each are brand new. And both stories are way better than tge garbage we got as stories in Gen 2-6. He's done way more to prove himself than pretty much anyone on OP's list except Tajiri and Masuda.

HGSS was dripping with restorations that kept the original vision of the game intact that was lost in GS, and it almost completely rewrote the Gen 4 engine. Kanto was also completely rebalanced to have a legitimate level curve and difficulty wherein the original director made the dumbfuck decision to have everything keep the same levels as in RBY.

No, they wouldn't, because there are these cool things that exist called "budget" and "deadlines" set by the producers.

The -only- reason 3rd versions have as much content as they do is because they're working off an extra year of free development time on an already finished game to make profit scamming people into buying the game again. Don't be naive enough to think otherwise.
