11 years and I only just found out that tohjo falls and upper dark cave are actually accessible as soon as you get surf. Everyone always complains about having to face sub level 20 pokemon at that point in the game which makes grinding hell, but these locations are actually perfect grinding spots. What's more, I think it's intentional, I think you're allowed access to these spot in part in order for them to serve as a sort of reward, a place to get high level pokemon early if you're smart enough to backtrack there. All this time I thought wobbuffet was an end game pokemon but it's actually a midgame one. They need to do shit like this in pokemon so much more, johto is fucking brimming with hidden areas that have rare pokemon and higher leveled trainers, it really rewards exploration. The region isn't big but it's so openly constructed that I'm still finding out new stuff about it today.
Anyone else have interesting stuff like this to share?

Gen 5 was pretty solid, with BW2 offering an experience akin to Platinum or HGSS but proportionally better considering it was gen 5. BW were good too, but they're an acquired taste that you may not like, and they're base games so they have about as much content as you'd expect from base games, tho some solid polish. Gen 6 was only base games that were more rushed than past base games so it suffers a lot. Gen 7 is again, super decisive but if you don't mind linearity and story they're amazing. gen 8 base game sucks ass, difficulty is reasonable but overall it's super shitty, DLC is solid for exploration and nothing else

Nothing that hasn't been mentioned by others but I do like that aspect of these games that you drescribe. It would've been great if the series continued in that direction instead of becoming more linear. Finding Teddiursa in Dark Cave while looking for Dunsparce still blows my mind.

BW2 are overall the better games, and gameplay-wise the peak of Pokemon with a ton of QOL stuff, as well as being the fastest games to this day
However, BW has unironically a really cool story, nothing like the shit they've been doing since gen VI, and better protagonists.
They also unlock some stuff in BW2 if you played both on the same console

I can't believe those go for over $150 on Ebay... It's insane. I bought mine circa 2012-13 and it was still cheap. Time flies so fast.
For me 2010 is like yesterday.
I have Heartgold in mint condition, I wanted to play it but couldn't I didn't have time.
I also wanted to get Soul Silver but I guess it's fucked now...
Those games are pricier than their original counterparts. This Ip is nuts...

As I said, they're really decisive, most people will understandably hate them, but if you can look past the extreme linearity and overbearing story, what's been crafted is a legitimately good experience, it's just that experience has basically no room for agency

Johto is a beautiful place with cool optional places to explore, and the connection to Kanto is cool. HGSS Kanto is way better than GSC Kanto too.

All pretty memorable, Silver especially. Designs are good too.

A bit worse than the original GSC due to forcing the kimino dancers in, but the legendary cutscene is pretty good.
>Battles
One of the weaker regions in this regard, but there's still some good fights. HGSS Bugsy is stronger than GSC Bugsy, Whitney is still a pleb filter, and the Elite 4 rematch teams are great.

Loaded with it, anyone with common sense would tell you that.
>pokemon distribution
Improved distribution compared to GSC due to the new safari zone, making stuff like larvitar available a lot earlier.

HGSS is pretty solid all around. Not a lot to really hate it for.

This is depressing in a way, but also big because of how far I've come. When these games came out I was homeless and HeartGold was all I had to stave off the hopelessness. I'll never forget laying on an old futon pad in an empty room of a house with my DSLite being the only light I had.

Now I own a home and make six figures, but fuck... ugh. Time flies.
