Zamazenta is built like a male wolf and Zacian is built like a female wolf. The XY(Z) legendaries are based on creatures that lived in/around the World Tree of Norse mythology.

Real wolves don't do this either. Packs are family units. Only when a bunch of strangers are thrown in prison (captivity) together do they start doing that shit.

Hop does later call them partners when they're on top of Hammerlocke Stadium. I think the person who translated the dex entry screwed up. Even the music video showed them sleeping together, so they most likely were meant to imply them being mates and not rivals.

I don't really see where mates makes more sense than what the dex already implies. Siblings or some kind of competitive but still friendly rivals seems like a good enough explanation already for how they got presented till now.

Yes and? Wolves and most other animals with social structures do stuff like this without being mates all the time. It's part of being in a family group.
If you have multiple pets it happens too as long as the two don't hate each other's guts completely. It's a simple form of bonding for animals and to get some extra warmth on top.
Dogs cuddle frequently with humans too or do you actually think your dog wants to fuck you because they sleep on your belly?

They were actually named Zacian and Zamazenta because they were supposed to be just nameless entities and GF wanted it to sound like ancient titles, so they were just called "The Cyan" and "The Magenta" by ancients for how they looked as a blur.

Their shinies actually BEING Cyan and Magenta compliments this.
