Johto Protagonist beating Red, Alola Protagonist beating Red, anyone partaking in and defeating Red in the PWT, none of it's confirmed to have actually happened, but at the same time, none of it's confirmed to have never happened.
Until GameFreak or The Pokemon Company clarify for us, we're forced to assume for ourselves.
