the mystery dungeon games have the freedom to write a focused story while mainline have to kitbash the pokemon league and the saving the world plots together and its almost always a mess

It can be but the game puts just enough effort into the Pokemon League plot that it becomes messy. See how the final boss is usually the champion and not the actual villain you're supposed to dislike.

Gates is kinda better at storytelling but worse at everything else including being a game so it balances.

EoS has the perfect balance between storytelling and gameplay elements, the only game that I would accept that is equally great to EoS is Nobunaga no yabou everything else in both mainline and spin-offs pales in comparison.

It was getting old. Had they did that again, it would've been absolute shit and you would've hated it anyway. Bittercold was a fresh and interesting idea, and Kyurem wasn't a generic evil villain like Darkrai.

If you think this is good, you have no room in any conversation about anything. Hydreigon was based but besides that Gates of Infinity is among the worst Pokemon games of all time.

Whole Bittercold gimmick was retarded as fuck, remember Winds of Despair and how he feeds of Bad Emotions? (on whatever the fuck that is supposed to mean) Hydreigon basically tells you: If you get near to him, you get le evill'd and suffocated by his power.

Kyurem could have been a better villain on his own without recurring to this.

It doesn't even have to be a pokemon, just a conscious thing. A character. Conflicts between characters are interesting. Conflicts between a character and an ice cube are not.

Except that Kyurem has some points going through the game. He wants a future that he could reasonably see without IceIceEvilBaby having the fault, he had potential for being the GOAT of MD Villains. (He literally "killed" Hydreigon in front of you) and bittercold could have worked but it was way too miss-executed

I think it should've had various dialogues of pokemon discussing their pain, anxieties and negative emotions. Imagine how eerie it would be to hear Bittercold constantly talk about how it doesn't want to live anymore or how it hates everyone.

This, Pokemon's story could go a long way if the villain became the main focus halfway down the road instead of the champion which is boring.
