Honestly, I hope this happens so I can drop this franchise until Game Freak gets their act together. Even if they fuck up Sinnoh, as long as I can have access to a full dex without a yearly payment, I'll be fine.

I'm betting it doesn't happen until Gen X in 2026 for the 30th anniversary. I still think Masuda or Ishihara or someone high up at TPC or Game Freak saw Sakurai's EVERYONE IS HERE for Smash Ultimate, and immediately went to thinking of how they could pull off the same thing with as big of a fanfare-to-effort ratio as possible. Going back on Dexit in less than one generation wouldn't pack as much of a punch as making everyone sweat for a while. Plus it saves them some of the trouble of coming up with something big and exciting for their 30th.

What's more likely is the Sinnoh remakes having the rest of the Pokémon not available in SwSh with some overlap. This ensures that all the Pokémon are accounted for and that buying the remakes is necessary for playing with the other Pokémon. This will be done to boost sales of the remake in the future. The main games of each gen will have around 60%-75% of all available Pokémon at the time after all the DLC is released and the remaining Pokémon will be in the remake, forcing you to maintain a Pokémon Home subscription to keep your favorites when they are rotated out. Gen IX and the Gen V remakes will be the same.
