I’d say that the new hires have passion, the franchise has been around long enough that many of them are fans and working on a Pokémon game is likely a dream come true for them. On the other hand the people that have been working on the franchise since the beginning seem more checked out.

According to Morimoo, they still hold company-wide pvp tournaments. They do still enjoty working on it, but as I said, they have no desire to chase a market that's nowhere near as profitable as their current one. It's also why no-one's bothered with how the games look, it's never been a factor in kids buying into the series, why would it ever start to be now, when the core of the games is the exact same that had the world eating out of their hands in the late 90's?
