Pokémon is a different sort of cool. Honestly, never felt Pokémon and Digimon were supposed to be rivals when they are so different from each other.

Pokémon and Digimon aren't even in the same genre.
Digimon is a Digital Life sim.
Pokémon is a monster catcher.
Even the stories/lore have nothing in common with each other.

They were never rivals as the first virtual pet was released a year before Red and Green got localized(when Pokemainia happened)

The first Digimon anime was just unfortunate to be localized a year after the Pokémon anime got localized. Creating the illusion that it’s trying to rip off a cultural phenomenon
