Whenever someone says this I feel like don't really think about why. Pokemon fundementally is something you need to sink insane time into, I bet the vast majority of that time is just spent breeding or grinding the battles tower, or fetching shit from the wild areas, hardly engaging in the slightest, and it barely takes anything from the developers to make that content. Games like Botw are way more reliant on having engaging content instead of worrying about keeping you playing it forever

Shield was my first switch game and going from that to FE3H and AC was like going from drinking sand to water
No voice acting, one of the towns is literally just a hallway with a Pokecenter, and the NPCs are 80% ugly
When you climb ladders everything freezes around you in the overworld
Boring and repetitive multiplayer
Short, forgettable story that introduces characters and gives them the barebones minimum of a personality
OP I don't recommend it
If you absolutely must play it, buy a used copy but not as your first game
