Memes aside, anyone who thinks these characters are remotely similar story-wise is a retard. The only resemblances are their overall demeanor and a relation to an important figure in the region, past that they're as different as can be.

Yeah. He wanted to be a Kahuna or other i.pirtant trainer like Hala, but never took anything seriously because it helped him cope with losing. Eventually Glafion convinces him to take things more seriously so he can actually help people, and he convinces Gladion to relax sometimes so he can form relationships. They mirror each other.
