There are certain pokemon that I only catch/use as a female or a male, but as for a whole team, I try to always balance so there are an equal amount of both.

Depends on the design. Masculine or neutral = male, feminine = female.

Some designs I try and get a specific gender but I never try too hard for a full team.

I usually end up with males unless it's a female only pokemon. If I wanted a raichu, I'd definitely make sure it's male because I hate how the female's tail looks.
