Nostalgia aside, is there any reason to play the originals over this? Like at all? The lack of Vs. Seeker doesn’t seem appealing

Better sprites
Better mechanics
Less handholding
Better music

It's more fun to play Kanto how it was originally intended to be portrayed instead of a game diluted with nu-Pokemonisms.

gen 1 is a novelty, but unpolished mechanics and lack of qol changes that the newer games bring doesn't do it any favors.

The originals have a grittier and more rough aesthetic. This sounds niche but RPGs live or die on their aesthetics for most people, just like Square Enix. I respect both myself

I feel like the original games are worth experiencing for the sake of getting a better understanding of the series' history and the core appeal. In spite of its glitches, I think Pokemon Red/Blue are still very solid experiences, significantly shorter than the average Pokemon game too so it's not too much of a commitment.

I actively and unironically hate nu-gen hyper beam and crit mechanics to the point I can't play gen 2 and above. This also applies to gen 1 hacks that ""fix"" these things. Same for gen 1 misses.
Also, a lot of the sprites (not Exeggcute and Seadra, etc.) are better.
