Most of the mega evolution entries reveal that mega evolution is extremely painful to the pokemon who do it. I believe the Scizor entry talks about how it struggles to keep it's form because it's literally melting itself from the inside.

I bet all of the "painful" Mega entries were made by salty, immature, kids that couldn't Mega Evolve their pokemon because they didn't have a good enough bond, so they made up entries about how the Pokemon is actually in pain while Mega Evolved.

Point me to where GameFreak or The Pokemon Company say the Pokedex is nothing but lies and shouldn't be trusted, because no source of Pokemon media is anti-Dex.
In fact, pretty much all Pokemon media treats the Pokedex as absolute gospel, and a lot of entries are proven in manga, anime and other formats that can show Pokemon living as they normally do rather than what the games limit us to viewing.

Though it wouldn't surprise me if it were GF trying to sell megas as bad, it does kinda make sense. If Mega Evolution was painful to maintain, it's logical that a Pokemon would only be willing to for a trainer it's close to.

Gameplay segregation, just like how the turn-based system is an abstraction of how battles ACTUALLY play out as seen in the anime.
It's also the same reason you can't breed a Solgaleo and Lunala for a Cosmog, even though they're both clearly capable of doing so as seen in the Alola games.
