The swords of justice had the bad luck of premiering in a game with legendary bloat. When it came to a legendary trio they never stood a chance against the genies. If they came out in gen 4 instead of the lake trio we'd be looking at them in a completely different light

Cobalion's legs aren't backwards, it's just a digitigrade, which means it walks on its toes and the actual feet don't touch the ground. The "backward"-bending joints are the ankles, not the knees. Most mammals are digitigrades.
