What I meant was that there's this illusion people have about asian languages and their written form. Seeing all that, what seems like chicken scratch is really intimidating, and based on that fear they come to the conclusion that the language is difficult.
If you were to put English and Japanese next to eachother and compare how certain ideas are expressed in both languages, japanese is a whole lot more primitive sounding due to how concise it can be.
When in English I could say something like "it's cold in here", in japanese I could just say "cold".
Sure it doesn't make it any easier for someone who's first language is English trying to learn japanese, but that's not because it's "difficult" it's just really distinct from other languages.
