XY is not really hated, it was pretty liked on release, it's just pretty forgotten now. It brought a lot of good in terms of QoL, but the main campaign was messy. Broken giftmons like the mega kanto starter and the mega lucario were dropped on you, rehashed stuffed like Viridian Forest and the Snorlax roadblock, really terrible battles despite the huge distribution of pokemon (recovered from this gen 7), and while Kalos has great lore, the story with Team Flare is strange and it's hard to tell what message Gamefreak wanted to get across. But I forgive all of this because they clearly had to put more work into the 3D models and environments and QoL changes while all of this was secondary. XY's postgame is overhated, stuff like friend safari and the great online were cool, it's the maingame that was shitty.

Shauna was fine, the guys sucked though. The only way the game had a decent male supporting cast member was if you played as Serena with Calem as your rival. If you played as Calem the game was basically you with your two waifus (Shauna & Serena) and your two dork friends. The implication that Calem, Serena, and Shauna may have gained immortality was funny to be, since it was like Calem gained his immortal threesome.

I was always fine with it because an entirely new dex was very welcome for me and you still play with the other Pokemon postgame, but I guess people didn't like not being able to pick their favorites earlier on. I just wish the games revealed what happened to Hilda/Hilbert, since that mystery was never explained. Maybe they'll pop out of an Ultra Wormhole or something in a future game as a cameo.

I'm with you though, I do hope we see Hilda/Hilbert show up again, or even N to be honest. Feels like they left the door open for more from the characters in those games only to abandon them.

I can't imagine they'll ever remake Gen V. If anything, we'll just see them go back to Unova one day in a different game and just leave cookie crumbs for those who enjoyed the story.
With how the generation was split on the two part story, it just wouldn't make sense to try to remake only half of it. And they'd never remake both games. Might be why USUM wasn't a sequel, so if they have to redo SM one day they can just pick and choose what parts to keep from both games without worry.

It really came down to how much you liked online, because Gen 6's online was incredible. What was especially nice is that it came out during a time that 3DS hacking was in its infancy and so there weren't a lot of hacks going around. Probably the only time this will be the case for a mainline game.
As a single-player experience its pretty lame but that's the case for any Pokemon game that isn't a third version/sequel. As a result the games just in a weird limbo where it has no real appeal outside of nostalgia.

Alola is probably my least liked region which is strange since I thought I'd enjoy it since it was based on Hawaii. The island trials just felt tedious and boring. I got tired of Team Skull talking like Slim Shady. And the Ultra Beasts are basically aliens which felt very out of place given the setting. I would've preferred more creatures like the Tapus or deities based on Hawaiian lore.

The whole ride through Kalos made me feel throughly indifferent. I just think people don't like because they have no story to share by the time they end it. Things kind of just happen, you're never enough on your own for things to feel like accomplishments and even then, XY never delivers in difficulty or building up characters: From rivals to antagonists to the Champion, no one particularly feels like a threat, or is a threat, yet they somehow are there just enough to undermine your adventure and ruin any sense of exploration the games could have.
It sprinkles in some interesting bits here & there for lorefags, and if it wasn't so incohesive, the region would be decent. All things considered, I think its level design could be okay-ish if there was more freedom.

The Exp Share in concept is a good thing because fuck grinding. The issue was that X and Y weren't properly balanced around the player using it because it was the first game to have it since Gen 1 where it wasn't nearly as broken and nobody used it because having to go through 6 extra lines of dialogue after every single ko was too annoying to deal with.

No it didn't. Hoenn had shittons of optional paths and areas to explore that the story didn't take you to. Gym order was mostly linear with a couple of exceptions (Brawly and Winona), but with all the explorational potential it bad you can't rightly call in linear.

It's not just tutorials. Like in SwSh where the Macro Cosmos employee walks you to your hotel and back since they think you'll get lost on a straight street.

There's also Leon taking control of your game for a minute if you don't catch any Pokemon before you reach route 2. He accesses the menus and catches something step by step because he thinks you don't know how.

X and Y only had a single legendary bird, Mewtwo, and a very shitty and weak Zygarde to search for post-game. Two out of those three are OLD content.

Ruby/Sapphire had the Regis, Latios/Latias, and an extremely powerful third-ancient in Rayquaza to find.

Diamond and Pearl had an insane amount of content. The lake trio. Heatran. A reward for catching all the regis in the previous game with Regigas, Cresselia, and another fucking third deity in Giratina, who was also a strong pokemon with a cool design.

This isn't even including the sheer number of events between those games. X and Y doesn't have ANY events excepts the ones fucking handed to you in the Pokemon Center you ignoramus.

Who the fuck plays Pokemon to collect things that aren't fucking Pokemon? Seriously? The mega stones being scattered are only a little neat until you realize you're probably going to stick to using a single one throughout your entire playthrough because of the single-mega-per-team rule and it's a poor attempt to artificially lengthen the duration of the game with SOME kind of 'content'.

That's Gen 2 when there was another Professor Tree who hands me another Grass/Fire/Water starter just like Kanto and tells me to go off and collect 8 Gym Badges just like Kanto.

Nobody on their right mind judges BW2 for it's main campaign. It'd be pointless to do so ignoring BW's main story. Most of BW2's praise comes from its rich postgame.

I don't remember Professor Elm handing me Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squritle as my starters. I don't remember Newbark Town being an exact copy of Pallet Town. I must have gotten a bootleg.
BTW, X&Y didn't brand themselves as direct sequels to RGB like G&S did. Plus, Johto is literally connected to Kanto so it making references to its literal neighboring region is acceptable.
Kalos is as far away from Kanto as any of the other Post-Sinnoh regions but yet it can't stop sucking it off. I understand Kanto is the most popular. I understand that it will be referenced to. But the thing is that Kalos very near loses its own identity because it can barely stop trying to make you remember Kanto by making direct references to the region.

Technically it started with Gen 2 if you don't count Kanto as postgame content because "it has another set of credits!" Because there is LITERALLY nothing to do after you beat Red.
