Mind, that's not to say that he's perfect or anything. The crowning realization of his character arc to want to become a Pokemon Professor someday is a good one that would cap off his arc nicely, in the sense that having lost his initial goal, he's found something new that is his choice rather than just trying to live up to his brother. The only real problem with it is that nothing really happens that hints his interest in Pokemon research before he draws this specific conclusion.
