>>45356568Gen 6 stuck out to me as a Quality over Quantity gen when it came to new designs, focusing on new type combinations and Pokemon that fit the world rather than a lot of rehashes of Gen 5's dex. That being said there's a surprising amount of Pokemon that I don't like from this gen. Many of those designs end up improving in evolution/form change, except for Goodra who is a massive downgrade for the Goomy line. Volcanion can suck my balls for ruining the concept of a Fire/Water type.
Replaying the game I've realized I was a bit hard on the world design over the years but it's still relatively bland with its lackluster route themes, bizarre transitions between areas, and lack of exploration in major areas. The story is a nightmare, the Kalos League is one of the most forgettable (besides the hunky ice daddy and skaterbitch), and the team/rivals are some of the worst the franchise has ever had.
These were all issues which could've been fixed up in a third version/sequel/whatever that never happened. I think a fabled "Pokemon Z" or "X2 Y2" with a fantastic postgame, fleshed out characters, more areas to explore and more things to do in each area could've made it one of the best and shown that Pokemon could really work in 3D. Jumping straight to remakes and Gen 7 was a bit of a mistake imo.
