Usually /vp/ (and Pokémon community overall) have bad taste at Pokemon species, but I'm glad them don't get the hate many Pokémon have. Maybe because they are old school legendaries

Because they're overlooked by Pokémon fans as a whole and this place is full of contrarians and hipsters. So with the Regis, they don't have to feel insecure by liking something that too many other people like.

I think it's a lot of things really, like a perfect storm
>Cool concept introduced in an earlier gen (golems made out of elements)
>Cryptic way of capturing them made them an interesting secret (Braille puzzles, catching a wailord and a relicanth)
>Cult following because of all of this and the fact that they aren't all that great in battle
>Regigigas's Slow Start being a fucking awful ability, even though he's a legendary and shouldn't need a nerf, is fun to joke about

They’re some of the only legends that aren’t shilled and shoved down your throat all game. The only others I can think of are the swords of justice and maybe the legendary birds. Add to this that they’re the only ones who seem really truly hidden throughout all the games, and you get a really underrated set of legends.

This. This is how it works on every board. /an/'s favorite animals are all underappreciated or weird looking (pongo, borzoi, vultures). /tg/'s favorite races and classes are underdogs (dwarves, imperial guard). /vp/'s favorite pokemon are not very good in competitive and not very appreciated by the pokemon fanbase at large. 4chan is a hivemind like any other, no matter what it says.
