>>45368837The issue is more that they're more limited. Yes, EVs are more readable than stat experience, but you could max every stat at 65535 stat experience so every stat could increase by +63. But EVs have the 510 limit. Now you could argue that limitations encourage strategy, but that strategy is really only relevant in multiplayer, as are EVs. The series wasn't really at the point where players could really make viable teams without going through a large amount of tedium either.
In addition to the overhaul to these mechanics, they should have created ways to properly take advantage of them.
>EVs gained in each stat with the 255 stat limit, no overall 510 limit>New menu made entirely for competitive set-up, including the 510 limit, visual representation of EVs and IVs, ways to increase IVs, etc.>Moves, once learned, should be relearnable without a cost from the competitive menu, but the four move limit still remains>TMs are infinite, but difficult to acquire, and teaching a TM to a new Pokémon for the first time incurs a cost, though they can relearn that move for free should they forget it>Unlockable second Ability slot that can be switched in the menuLike one of the biggest complaints for competitive Pokémon is that you can't use your favorites, you have to play Eugenics RNG Simulator for hundreds of hours for the most viable ones. If you could just let people treat each individual Pokémon as a character with unlockable slots that can be built and rebuilt over and over again, it would be fine.
So as much as EVs, Natures, and Abilities make the game more diverse and readable, they also make it far more limiting.
