Anyways I always see pokemon, at least in the anime, occupy a similar space as intelligent talking animals that are still treated as animals in other franchises. We still see instances where pokemon are treated like lesser creatures even in the anime where they're depicted as more intelligent than their game counterparts barring some legendaries.
