I'm here to confirm that the rumour about the free updates for sword and shield is true. There are a few details the leak missed however.
Firstly the release date will be the day after Pokemon day and the second update will be in June or July. The reason these updates are being done is to keep players interested and invested in Pokemon until the next games come out. There was originally a plan to open up a new area on the map to catch pokemon but this idea was scrapped in place of just putting them in dynamax adventures.
Secondly, there are a few other pokemon that are coming back in the first update that weren't mentioned which are the evolution lines of Grimer, Pineco, Numel, Ducklett, Litleo, Crabrawler, Oricorio and Bruxish
Thirdly the new rivals in the Galarian star tournament are added in one by one and all have a similar style cutscene to Swordward and Shieldbert when they are introduced. You will have to have already unlocked all other rivals before they begin to join. Also Klara and Avery have altered teams once the first update is released. Klara replaces Slowking with Alolan Muk and Avery replaces Slowbro with Bruxish.
Next the mythical event raids will begin in January and will be done through normal raid dens NOT dynamax adventures and they will be shiny locked except for two which will only be shiny and they are Celebi and Zarude.
Finally in the last update they are adding a new regional varient that will only be found in dynamax adventures and it is a rock/fairy type Slugma line. It's pokedex entry says that it is not from Galar and comes from a far away unknown region.
