you can assign one fully evolved pokemon on your team a pokemon that is yet to evolve and below a certain height
something something additional damage/ hp with simple attack based on type or bonuses to the main mon
specific pokemon get fusions or more complex combos like diglett stuck in crustle, swablu in whimsicott floof, some bug living on torterra's back etc

Gen 9 will take place in the California Bay Area due to Silicon Valley an the new gimmick: Digital Upgrades.

Here's how it'll work. In the new region with advanced technology, the people there crave a little more than just regular battles, so now they have come up with these “digital upgrades” to give to Pokemon. When you catch a Pokemon. You will have a chance to find and “install” a microchip to your Pokemon(there will be a unique one for ever Pokemon much like the Mega Evolution stones) and once you install them into your Pokemon it give you the options to give them extra advantages in battles. With limitations and costs of course

As an example, I'm going to use the word watts. Say you pick up the fire starter and are given the upgrade chip for said Pokemon. The chip is low powered at first with a limit of 500 Watts, you can find and purchase upgrades for your chip but each upgrade costs a certain amount of watts, like a small statue boost could cost 150 watts(Per each stat, so a small speed boost is 150, attack is also 150 etc etc..) and would subtract from the overall 500 the chip currently has. As you battle and gain experience the chip will also upgrade and can handle more watts for more effective upgrades(Like large stat boosts(would cost somewhere around 1750 or something high)and negating type disadvantages(Maybe 2000 cost) or even using an extra move .) or even the highest extreme they can go: upgrade your Pokemon to Mega evolve, use a Z move or even Dynamax them.

Move modification/modding: A mechanic that allows you to change the properties of moves. All Pokemon would have "Modifier points" (MP) and you can allocate a maximum of two per Pokemon. Some examples:
>Changing normal-type moves to another type (ex. Changing Quick Attack from Normal to anything else)

There would be limitations for balance reasons (no Fire/Water/etc. Return for you), and you can't give something like Rattata Accelerock, but it would serve as a solution to bolster the coverage options of some Pokemon since Hidden Power is gone, but if it was still around, this system would serve as a nice way to get the HP typing you want without having to run suboptimal IVs.

I want to make a California region and right now I'm sort of stuck on legendary pokemon.

My idea is that the california region is geologically unstable, there are a lot of earthquakes in the region and eventually, the landmass will eventually break off from the Unova landmass. And this instability is the result of a legendary.

I'm thinking of making it a fighting type Regi - an "evil" being that was sealed beneath the mountain of the Cali-region by it's creator because it was too destructive. It has the terrifying ability to steal the "fighting spirit" of anything it touches and it has been doing so for ages - attempting to break free of it's prison.
People haven't found out about the regi at the center of the region, but they did discover an odd energy source.

They tap into it for pokemon to dynamax, and in a way, further weaken the fighting-regi. The problem is I don't necessarily know if that makes any sense, and there is no "fight age".

Grass Starter - Ground Sloth into some sort of Bigfoot, I just need some good grass-features to give it.

Water Starter - Water-Fighting Bear, actually a descendant of Urshifu that got stranded when the region started to split. They interbred with Ursaring and this was the result(?).
Based off the the California Grizzly and Bear & Bull fights.

Fire Starter - Fire/Steel type goat. Starts off cute but gets kind of creepier as it evolves.Damascus is a type of Steel as well as a Goat, so that's the tie between the two.
Based off of the Bay Bridge Troll. As well as a number of bridge dwelling troll monsters in the USA.

Cities are now separated by 3 or 4 distinct wild areas like crown tundra and Isle of armour
Towns are scattered throughout the open-world wild areas and cities function as gates between them. I would ideally want more wild areas, but I don't expect that from GF
