Contrasted to Z-Moves, which are specifically pulled off by a bond between trainer and Pokemon, and Z-Crystals, which are guarded by the totems-given out to only those who are deemed worthy. The Totem Aura itself goes wholly unexplained, we have no idea if Necrozma causes it or not. The only hint we have is the effect being similar to the inherent boosts Ultra Beasts get from the wormhole energy, but that doesn't explain the size increase.
Eternatus and Necrozma's effect on their respective regions is only similar superficially.
