Agreed. Pairing up Red with Charmander all the time is boring and I like Special's take, which itself was based on very early artwork.

Fitting. I just can't see Silver with Chikorita, also agree with Special's take.

I'd say it's fitting, for May one of her best official artworks (depicting Jirachi shooting star) and of course the anime has her with Torchic. Brendan is usually always with Treecko.

Despite Master's take, this was always the most fitting. The energetic fire monkey just fits Barry (and his color scheme) too much.

The only one I'll argue, but that's only because Hilda = Tepig, assuming she's the heroine.
Bianca does have Tepig in the Ashime, so I dunno. Gamefreak claims Tepig is the "funny" starter, so I guess it fits her in that sense. It also fits the Master's verse.

7/9, pretty good, but Serena only has Fennekin if she's the MC, and only the males are the canon MCs so you should put rival!Serena with Chespin there. And Victor is probably supposed to have the rape gorilla because Leon is literally designed after the same arquetype as Scorbunny's final evolution, just like Kukui's stage-self and Litten's final evolution

Victor/Gloria should get Grookey
So Hop can have the crying chameleon, since he is whining during the whole game about not being able to defeat anyone.
And Scorbunny can be trained by Leon's Charizard, since it's a fire type.

My only issues with this are that Hay should have Rowlet (this one is the game's fault, not yours) and the Galar player should have Grookey. Sobble makes sense for Hop's personal story, and Cinderace makes sense for Leon as another competitive, proud Pokemon.

Every 3 gens a different type is given the spotlight instead of having to repeat a type we seen in a previous generation. Like if we seen Red use Bulbasaur in gen 1 then why does Brendan have to use Treeko in gen 3. Let him use Mudkip. 2 starters of the same type in every 3 gens is boring.
