They had more expressive and a wider variety of battle animations and a better sense of direction. Compare a multi-hit move in GCN to SwSh's multi-hit moves. Both repeat their animations, but GCN abridges it and changes the angle each time to make it feel more dynamic while SwSh just doesn't do that.

I respect your opinion but I think there is a healthy inbetween that can be reached. Battle revolution and pokken are good examples of what I'm looking for. Stuff like detective pikachu is not. Same goes for the gen 6 models due to their aggressive lack of details for several models.

It's a fact that despite the "hurr n64 trees" it still has a better overall art direction than the gamecube games. It's not a contest, and the only reason you're saying otherwise is as a means to cope because the game didn't end up as you wanted, XD and Colosuim were only ever medicore.

Works great. There was like 1 issue for literally 1 quick cut scene at the beginning where some textures were black, but that is it. I'm actually surprised how smooth it is. If your computer is good, you can crank up the res and it can look crazy, but im on a laptop so i can only crank the res up x2.

Oh also, i am not all the way through the game, so there may be an issue after Frost Cavern in the story. But the way things are going, i doubt it. I forgot, in addition to the time in the beginning, there was another time the textures didn't show up when they showed Prism Tower. Maybe it might have been my settings, idk. But those are the only emulation errors i can think of. It has been a very cool experience.

They had way more expressive animations and better details overall. Sword and shield may look better with current graphics but watching the battles with lazy animations and blank backgrounds is definitely a step backwards. Revolution and Stadium will always have the best animations though

While the Genius Sonority games obviously had worse graphics, they had far better art direction compared to SWSH. The GC games + Revolution had a more grounded feel to them due to having a nice mix of muted and vibrate colors. Also the games weren't afraid to show gritty places so there's a nice variety of visuals. Orre felt like an actual place you could be in. Compare this to LGPE and SWSH where everywhere is bright, overly saturated and sanitized. Spikemuth breaks away from this a bit but even then it's so vastly illuminated.

PBR is much more tactful than SWSH in how it handles its problems. The trainers disappear but it's hardly jarring because they don't pop in and out randomly, plus each cutscene for a move plays right after the last one with the text appearing at the same time to get rid of awkward pauses and prevent the trainers from popping up in the battlefield again.
