Hey bros. Should I give Shield a go or hold out for the next game? For reference, I didn't play LGPE either. Had fun with Ultra Moon, kinda wanna play a new game.
Will admit the dex cut, not being able to catch certain pokémon until gym badges are obtained, and dynamaxing are the things that have deterred me until now.
So, play or wait?

Comes down to how reliant your fun is on online.
If you enjoy online, then hold out for the next game which will likely have a significantly more active online community than SwSh does right now, being a year old and all.
If you don't care, then sure go ahead and get it.

Yeah, I like the online community aspect. It is a common factor in most games I play, Switch. PS4, Steam, etc.

Still wanna play a newer game though. Replayed UM, X, White 2, White, HG, Platinum, LG, and Ruby since SS came out. Really craving a new game. In certain cases I have replayed some of the above mentioned titles more than once over the years, want something new. I like games that fans have made, but it's just not the same to me as a game that I can transfer my bros I've worked on to tackle online in a newer game.

Not as bad anymore with most of the dex patched in even for non-DLC players now. Might want to check a list to see if your faves made the cut though.

That one's not as big of a problem as it seems at first, fortunately. Just stick to the first half of the Wild Area and don't cross the bridge at first, and you'll be pretty much able to catch anything except for critters in the Giant's Seat area to the east as well as the bigger Pokemon roaming around outside of the grass (like the Onix you'll see).

After you get 3 badges you'll be able to cross the bridge and catch a ton more Pokemon while the rest of the big lone wanderers will be able to be caught gradually as you get more badges (the desert Dusty Bowl and Lake of Outrage in the northwest need more badges too). Make sure your Pokemon is a higher level than the Pokemon you face though since if you have a lower-level Pokemon out when you throw the ball you won't be able to catch something even if you have the badges for it.

Also there's basically no badge cap on Pokemon gotten from raids since higher level raid levels are tied to badges.

For better or worse it's mostly just tied to raids and boss fights.

The online for SwSh is still pretty active right now though along with the second part of the DLC having just come out.

Cheers for the info. I did check and unfortunately some of my bros didn't get in. But I think I'd start fresh due to not really wanting to lose the ones that did get in to Home.

Yeah, it's a pain, but it's just the usual gimmick. Hopefully it will be fazed out in Gen 9. Megas are fine, but after that it gave a sour feeling when every gen had to have a 'thing'. Regardless, thanks for the info.
I hope the online is still active and I didn't miss the pique.
