Grass is the worst type in terms of number of defenses vs number of offenses, but that doesn't mean it has the worst pokemon. Stats, abilities, and movepools make a pokemon just as much as typing does. And, to add onto that, water and ground have becomes such meta staples that even grass's few offensive advantages are relevant in this gen.

If you look at bulky water pokemon you'll notice that almost all of them are viable, the reason you don't see them all in OU is simply that everyone uses the one who works best.

That's by design. A team of 6 can feasibly counter everything, but a team of 4 can't. It adds another layer of strategy into the game. Who will my opponent bring to the game? If I think that who should I bring? If they think I'm bringing those will they change their strategy? It's basically the "who should I lead with" decision except on steroids. It also lets the games go by faster, which is key for Bo3 competitions.

Dark is pretty fucking good, between immunity to prankster, immunity to psychic, stab sucker punch and foul play, and only two weaknesses realistically in vgc since no one uses bug. And yeah, being weak to fairy sucks, which is why fire/dark is even better and another reason inci is so good.

The dragon types who don't get good stats and abilities and vast movepools are shitmons.
And a shitmon like Beedrill wouldn't magically become decent by becoming a dragon type.
GF gives dragons nice things, but the simple act of being a dragon doesn't make a mon good.
