gen 1 still has the best holo aesthetic to this day. It's magical, even.
Also, sugi art is 100000x more soulful than any of the shit they do nowadays.

Towards the end of Sun and Moon they started going away from the CGI garbage and putting out more interesting full arts. This is probably my favorite full art card.

I don't have any real experience with playing the TCG but I'v read several articles about the early meta that said the same things: at first non-evolving mons with strong+cheap moves like Hitmonchan and Scyther dominated, then the Rocket expansion came out and everything became super degenerate with games being decided by whether you got the right Trainer cards in your opening hand or not. Then the rules started getting regulated more with cards getting rotated out as newer expansions came and things settled down to a more balanced meta where multiple strats were viable and mechanics like evolution actually became relevant.
