As far as why they made it look like it is swimming in the middle of the air, I dont know i think that is just a shitty decision (like most of the decisions for gen 8). They should have made him on the ground. I think you should refocus your anger to actual fish. I think of milotic and gyarados the same way the anime does. Its not like they are trapped via their gills; they are majestic fantasy creatures and dragon-like, so it's reasonable to think they aren't confined to the water. And they have a snake like body. It's not impossible, there's always a lot of weird incidental NPC dialogue that can be pretty enlightening, you just need to find it. Like that one NPC in the XY postgame that vaguely references and obscure Japanese guidebook by saying Pokemon eggs are more like cradles. That having been said, getting a screenshot would be useful. I haven't even pirated SS yet, so I can't check personally either.
