This game still sucks, it copied what Crystal and Emerald did in enhancing other games but wile Crystal enhanced great games and Emerald enhanced good games, Platinum sprayed febreeze on a pile of shit.

Platinum improved upon the base games the most:

As you said, Crystal and Emerald merely enhanced already good games while Platinum sought to actually fix flaws. Beyond the Suicune storyline and Battle Frontier, I don't think much was really done for Johto and Hoenn.
