Just as the tech industry moves to what's new and hot and everyone left with older shit's playing in the dark ages, comparatively. I mean, if Game Freak had gotten better tech with their 3DS devkit, they would have had a better transition to Switch than they had with the 3DS (look at all Nintendo studios did with their experience with WiiU for their Switch game). As they didn't, as they were kept on chipsets that lagged badly behind the industry (PS Vita was more powerful than 3DS remember), they were hamstrung with how much they could learn to do, before they needed to deliver their Switch games.
