All Johto starters had roles in Johto Season
All Hoenn starters had roles in Hoenn seasons, with Blaziken and Sceptile being the focus and Mudkip became Brock's pokemon
All Sinnoh starters had roles in Sinnoh seasons (even though Torterra was humiliated)
All Unova starters had roles in BW season
All Kalos starters had roles in X/Y (Greninjas was Ash's main, Braixen was Serena's and Chespin starred as a comic relief and had important role in XY megas special)
then SM started the trend to focus on only 1 starter and shits on the other two
PM went too far to make the entire anime for 1 starter only

Because like every gen, they decided to put all their chips on Cinderace. This isn't anything new, it's the third gen in a row doing this, they even do it retroactively with Charizard. Bulbasaur hardly appears in any merchandising/event. It's not le ebil bunne fault, it's been TPC's tactic for years now.

It's honestly have had better battles to me than Riolu/Lucario so far, Riolu's two fights with Bea's Grapploct were lackluster as hell.

No it doesn’t, Greninja line actually did though. Got multiple good battles (many BY ITSELF I might add), a dedicated training arc that gave it a special form that the other Kalos starters DIDN’T get and even got a grand battle at the end of the fucking series.
