The crux of the matter is no-one's bothered enough or fucking stupid enough to shift demographics. The only ones crying over the games are manchildren who can't move on, the rest of the world is doing what they always did - buying in and enjoying the games or ignoring them and going about life. But profits rise every year, sales have stayed largely consistent over 20 and there's still kids today biying into the series due to the merch, anime, sponsorships, games and all the other associated bullshit the franchise has gotten machine-like in churning out to propagate itself. Might as well cope with the fact it'll always be this way, because they WANT it to be this way.
