This looks like complete garbage. Just what the fuck were they thinking? Mt. Pyre was one of the most iconic, atmospheric areas in the series, and they completely fucking butchered it. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

The camera angles completely fuck up with the scale of the world. The top down camera of the original games gave the illusion that the game world was bigger than it really is. The 3D camera and 3D world of ORAS just make everything look like a theme park attraction.

Its so weird. ORAS has a lot of little flourishes I like and the handful of instances that reinterpret a location into something that would look good in 3D (while a few others all right as it)... and then there's the rest of the game. Every time I wanted a first person view or camera control I would get a cutscene that shows off exactly why Game Freak didn't give you those options. Sootopolis would probably still look pretty cool, being deliberately boxed in.

Probably because it has a cohesive, vibrant artstyle.
Gen 8 just looks muddied and doesn't have a fully cohesive artstyle. A lot of the textures just look like generic stock textures that would come with a 3d model software

The real problem with 3D Pokemon is that there's like no semblance of any art direction whatsoever, nothing that even feels like it was meshed together properly. It's just low-quality elements all over with nothing tying them together. If GF were smart they would have gone for cel-shading so they could get away with their terrible textures and models. Even that wouldn't save what seem to be stock assets everywhere but at say they took the SM artstyle and just upped the res and threw paint over it, people would have enjoyed that I think.
