>>45459394The mythical beast it is inspired from is mostly bovine, hence the black and white colors, the horn and people jokingly calling it a "cow" sometimes. From what I remember, said beast is ALSO often portrayed as more of a mountain lion, which does fit what we know about Absol—mountainous habitat, superstition kinda like a black cat, flat more human-like face similar to a cat, and some real sharp claws.
However, it's kinda undeniable that Absol does somewhat resemble a wolf, and in certain ways seems more dog-like. Personally I'd more easily imagine this thing barking or howling, than roaring or meowing.
It seems to have both cat and dog mannerisms and to be honest the REAL answer is that it is just both, and neither. Absol is just "beast" that probably split off evolutionarily from dogs and cats a long long time ago.
