I love HGSS, and while I think the level curve is, well, fine, the issue I run into is that the trainers on routes are such jokes. It’s not that I’m overleveled. The gym leaders are usually a good chunk high level than I am, but the trainers are stupidly weak. Like, for example, you can’t access route 47 until after you heal ampharos at the soonest. This is right when you unlock the ability to battle jasmine, who has Pokémon level 30-35 yet there’s a hiker on the route with 3 level 19 dunsparces, and the rest of the trainers are roughly the same? There is literally 0 reason for this, unlike other areas there isn’t even non linearity to account for.

Not making the most of the 100 new pokmeon designed for the game *is* a valid criticism.
Not as major of a problem as the level curve and the lack of pokemon diversity, but still valid.

I've played GCS more than I care to admit, the game is top comfyness to me, no grinding needed.
Add a team member every new town or so, and immediately send it against local trainers (love to catch a level 14 Growlithe with bite before Morty, beat gym, set to train up the next pokèmon) usually end up defeating Clair with a full team around level 33, and the elite is fun to beat finishing around level 40
if you can't beat the final boss with a level 50 team, game hands you out a level 70 legend, zero unfunny grinding needed
I suspect people do boring stuff like ev training and end up calling the game easy LOL

Why doesn’t it? By the time of HGSS, there regions are in communication with each other, they trade with each other, pokemon migrate and so on, yet HGSS had the shitty pokemon distribution in the wild and amongst trainers. That’s an issue. No other region but Johto does this. This is a flaw. Now try to argue it without attack me.

It treats newcomers as equals, not replacements. From all the arguments against Johto, this and "muh Kanto-exclusives" are the most retarded pair. You're meant to get a mix of new and old. There are tons of 1%-5% encounters that are meant to create these "holy shit, I didn't see that before" moments. It's by design.

Are you referring to games outside of GSC? Because you could literally farm apricots every day. You get 1 a day from Kurt in the originals, and in HGSS you get as many of the same type as you can give him in that day (if i have 14 white apricots I can make 14 fast balls by tomorrow)
