Had to han over your game for the event staff to *physically* put your game in the slot, unlock the pokémon and hand it back to you. No wi-fi in those days and in case you didn't realise, pester power works. It's why pokémon continues to sell bucketloads of kiddy shite every year.
But write whatever headcanon you need to cope with the series. Reality is markedly different to the happenings in your head.
