Maybe 1/5 Fairy types have interesting designs/background, and each fucking one of those could just as easily have been Psychic, or hell, even Dragon, expand that shit to cover magic, that'd have been cool as shit; the rest are just the "pink" type, or duct-taped onto random pokemon for no real reason.
It's modern gamefreak design at its finest, where they think they know what they are doing, but actually fucking don't. It turns out that giving a type really good resistances in Fighting and Dark, and only weaknesses to horrible types was a really, really fucking dumb idea, who would have guessed?
It's a product of Gamefreak being incompetent at balancing their games, and only imbalances it further rather than fixing the problem, but fuck it, they moved to a meta where balance doesn't matter and utter fucking chaos and power creep are the only things that matter anyways, because they know shit's fucked otherwise.
Also, it had an unmistakable influence on pokemon design, and is directly supporting the decline of pokemon visual design into "characters" and things clearly designed for its degenerate fanbase to fap to and little else.
