>>45487894Ok hold up, i understand getting annoyed that people say nessa isn't black, but this whole "Depriving black folk of a character to identify with" can fuck right off.
1) pokemon, like other franchise that comes from japan, japan often has artstyles that greatly simplifies the human face, so features that can be used to identify race basically boil down to skin colour and mabye hair texture. Hair and eye colour cant't be used as strong evidense as people in this world can naturally have pink and green hair and red irises, and even in the real world you can straighten your hair. While I do believe Ness is *most likely* the pokemon anologue for black woman, it's not exactly as clear as for example Lenora (who i'm almost certain would be) also another point is characters like Nessa, Raihan and Leon could be some sort of mix.
2)also to adress this racial "coding" thing, like half of the pokemon characters are asian, it's a franchise form an asian country, and the first 4 regions are based in japan, the reason why BLACK people don't have much representation in Japan is because there is barely any black people there AT ALL, also stop being so entitled to "see someone that looks like you" if you want that go make your own media franchise (or choose the darker skinned character option) liking a character because they "look like you" is dumb because, people like you invest way too much into race, cosplay who want, regardless of skin colour
3) my last point is, if you want to see characters that look like you, MAKE THEM! stop waiting and looking for handouts, and stop getting so hurt when "white nerds" complain, also stop blaming white people for everything, be the change you want to see, aslong as that doesnt involve harrassing people to comply with your near schizoid perspective
