It makes sense they would go for the game with similar assets that's different enough to call a proper sequel. If they were going to stop cucking Johto they would have given DLC to the original LGPE instead of making a Johto/Sinnoh dual game.

I'm pretty happy about Sinnoh getting the Let's Go treatment.
