I love Johto as a region to death but anything pre-gen 3 is technologically obsolete and I hate gen 4 graphics and engine so HGSS doesn't do it for me. also level curve is completely fucked.

Unpopular opinion coming up, gen 2 had the worst Pokemon designs of the first 5 generations with the exception of gen 4. They weren't outright bad, just meh, it felt like the mons were outtakes from gen 1.

And before someone posts Vanillice or Garbodour and says gen 5 was worse, gen 5 had a great design for every shit one, and Garbodour is a good design.

In spire of recognizing HGSS as the better versions of the game with a more polished engine, I always find myself coming back to these games when I want to revisit Johto. There's something charming about it's graphical presentation that feels like a look into the more polished and on-model sprites of the future installments and a celebration of the retro charm that you can find in the original games, never leaning to hard into one or the other. In spite of its issues, I still loved Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal.

Digimon has a well-made garbage monster. Power Rangers has many. Even fucking Sesame Street has a nice garbage monster. You only like Garbodor because you are a contrarian.

And of my favorites, only the Poochyena/Mightyena line is close to being dogs and they are not even top 6, so if you want to keep eating shit you can eat it straight out of my ass.
