If you touch the wrench icon of the C-Gear you can change the color of the big circles. The color of the bottom screen can also be changed by touching the corners.

In GSC the trees in which you can get Heracross aren't entirely random. They're based on your trainer ID number. There's calculators online that you can use to find out where it'll spawn.
