Did Rose really need the champion THAT much to help enact his plan on the day of the championship? Like I get that the energy will happen in a thousand years but what's the harm in waiting for just a single day to do what you need to do?

The mentality of leave it for tomorrow and putting more stock in a sporting event than the future of the country is ill-fitting of a hero in Rose's eyes. Even after awakening Eternatus he always meant for Leon to come in and catch it because he is fhe hero. Rose also left Macro Cosmos in Leon's hands after turning himself in so to me it reads like he just wanted his successor to be responsible.

Peony is a manual labourer, not great with academics. Everything he has is from hard work. Rose was slightly brighter but used his intelligence to manipulate people and play the system. I'll add to this by saying that their father was an entrepreneur. Peony took after his happy-go-lucky maternal uncle so learned early on he had to find love outside his own home, whereas Rose got respect by sharing his father's temperament.
