We know in the present that Galar Particles are what cause pokemon to Dynamax. Rose uses Galar particles as an energy source using the Hammerlocke powerplant. Rose figured out that if Galar Particles caused pokemon to Dynamax, and the Darkest Day was an event that caused Pokemon to Dynamax, and that Eternatus caused the Darkest Day, that must mean Eternatus can create Galar Particles, which means it can basically create infinite energy. Since it was asleep, it needed to be powered with Wishing Stars, which is where Bede and Oleana came in and supplied them. Once he had enough, letting Eternatus go loose and cause the Darkest Day would make Galar Particles be very abundant. He didn't care if people got hurt or even died because of the Dynamax Pokemon, as long as there were Galar Particles to create infinite energy, he was happy.
