The Thanksgiving Parade is a big deal watched by countless families. 2019's parade received 22 million viewers. What better way to advertise video games and Nintendo Switch? More viewers than a Pokemon stream and Nintendo Direct could ever receive.

IIRC one of the investors was interviewed and he clearly said they had no plans for a DP2 "at the moment" because the movie didn't reach the goal they had in mind. Us normal people might think those millions are some big number, but the mind of a bussinesman is a completly different universe.

I don't even have cable, but every year when I go to my parents' for Thanksgiving we have the parade on while everyone works on getting food together.
If they announce something during the parade, I'll probably know about it sooner than I would otherwise.
