It's not, and GameFreak has done it in the past. Like with everything, though, they take the bad and remove the good.
>Gen 1 (Kept things simple)
>Gen 2 (Expanded on Gen 1's plot with the same themes, and didn't go too crazy in the process)
>Gen 5 (Questioned the fundamentals of the series, had some good moments overall without being too intrusive even if it was bland aside from the characters)
>Gen 6 (Completely nailed the moral and characters. Is blotchy as fuck but is definitely carried by the atmosphere and lore)
>Gen 7 (Mostly a rehash of Gen 6 but did the villain actually right for the game. Characters are also okay even if more annoying and less memorable in some instances)
Hell, Gen 8 would have had an okay plot if it didn't try and be Kalos 3.0 and completely scrap everything that made SM so good in its plot.
It's not really that they don't try, it's more of a lack of confidence and disdain towards children even though children aren't even playing Pokemon at this point.

This is just straight up untrue. Kirby games are like comfort food, they're easy but they're always extremely well made, like Grandma would make. It might not be a masterpiece everytime, but you always know you'll get a great meal out of it and that grandma did her absolute best making it.

Pokemon games are just lazy McDonalds.

Story just doesn't matter at all, though. You're playing a game, not reading a book.
I enjoy Reborn and I enjoy GSC, I fully acknowledge both have dogshit stories and characters, I just don't care.

>It's about uniting humanity. Lysandre's whole shtick is that there aren't enough resources and energy to sustain everyone, especially with greed and war like Kalos experienced 3000 years ago. That's why he wanted to pull a Thanos and why the Team Flare guys are just a bunch of dumb rich dudes that all pooled their money together to make things happen.

Story in a game only matters if it's either really good and interesting or if it's constantly shoved in your face. Some games do both, some games nail the first part, but unfortunately pokemon has been veering to the latter case without any semblance of good storytelling, which is why many complain about the stories.

The fact is, Kalos as a region had more lore than the entirety of the rest of the series packed into two mediocre games. That said, and this is completely separate from the topic of the thread, the gameplay and QOL are still better than anything that came after.
The point is that you can have a decent plot without sacrificing gameplay. For that reason, Kanto, Johto, and Kalos all had great plots.

The two Gamecube titles succeeded.
There was something for children and adults in those games' plots.

Unfortunately, Game Fuck doesn't want to recognize that someone else did much better than them. So they fuck up on the plot on purpose so nobody tells them "wow, looks like you got inspired by the works of Genius Sonority!".

This, I personally don't give a fuck about stories in pokemon games, constructing your own narrative based around like a nuzlocke or something is infinitely more entertaining than whatever semblance of plot mainline pokemon games have. The problem is ever since Gen 6 and ESPECIALLY since Ohmori started running things, Pokemon has been constantly interrupting the flow of gameplay to tell a story, and for the most part, the story it's telling has been really bad and not interesting, so these interruptions for a story you don't care about is fucking annoying. Are missing the point, yeah story doesn't mater if it's not shoved in your face like in older pokemon games, but if Gamefreak wants to interrupt you playing the game to tell a story, then the story should be good, otherwise it's irritating.

Mc is a 12 years old loli and she's the strongest trainer in her school. But she's poor so her parents can't support her trainer career. She can't have more than one Pokémon and can't evolve it because it would eat more and shit. No kid at school can do that either.
But one day she meets an extremelly based and totally not a degenerate hobo that can help her make her dreams true.
Her friends are a bunch of lesbians and she often forgets to wear panties. There's some bath scenes. Her rival's onichan is hot as fuck.
It sounds bad but it's cool in my head.

Which is why it succeeds as a plot in a pokemon game. The only plot that got slightly close to interesting was BW, and even that was only okay. The ideal pokemon plot is one that doesn't sacrifice gameplay, such as the regions the other anon exemplified.
