>>45524872Because gen 2 was made when GF was still a relatively new company and Pokemon was a new franchise that wasn't intended to have a second installment but got one anyway due to the unexpected success of the first installment. Gen 2's imperfections are undeniably there, but they're more excusable.
They barely even knew how to make a game, let alone add bells and whistles like difficulty settings. But now they 100% know how to add difficulty settings because they did it 10 years ago when they still gave a shit and never did it again.
Pokemon is too big to fail at this point. It's the most profitable intellectual property on Earth and GF has been for longer than most posters on this board have been alive. They can do better and take risks all they want because even the worst-selling mainline Pokemon games were still huge successes by the standards of games in general.
There's no excuse anymore. They're not newbies. They're just lazy.
