LGPE uses Gen VIII's engine and has megas, though.

No, it uses a bastardised Gen VI engine, which forked into Gen VIII's engine when Masuda was playing Director for the final time.
But you'll understand soon enough.

Speak for yourself, I want a game that fixes Johto's abysmal distribution and adds actual content for both regions. People shit talk the level curve but it's not easy to fit in 16 badges without having some kind of scaling problems. The fact they couldn't do it is the reason no other game has had 2 regions in it.

Yes.. and the engine that LGPE and SWSH use are near identical
Even if your headcanon of it using a Gen VI engine were true, that would just mean SWSH uses a Gen VI engine, too. Ergo, LGDP will also use that same engine.
