Problem was because "GLASSES-LESS 3D!" was such a huge selling point for the 3DS that Gamefreak likely felt obligated to make the transition to 3D.

Just imagine how much better Gen 6 & 7 would be if they chose to keep using sprites. Though they'd still be fucked when the Switch came out.

Yeah, they would have cut Pokemon earlier while having worse animations, not have Pokemon amie, not have Trainer customization, and not have a dynamic battle camera. So much better!

With 3D models, animation is the soul. Just like with people. A photo can have a lot of soul. A 3d model has none. But home videos are animated 3d models and have a ton of soul.

this is why there are many successful indie games with 8-bit graphics (Undertale and Shovel knight for example) but when you sell a multi-billion franchise game for $90 that looks like an early PS3 game with everything recycled from 3DS games then SWSH is a legit scam

Most of them don't even have idle animations like that.
I've been using Alolan Marowak for a 120 win streak in SM battle team and never seen it do anything other than its regular arm flapping and attack animation.

Yeah, and yet the 2D sprites were still more dynamic overall. Seeing a bit of animation every once in a while doesn't make up for how lifeless the pokemon are in general.
Besides, older 3D games also had attack/damage intake/ko animations and were infinitely more detailed and full of personality than the modern games.

Modellers create the models based on drawings, so it's the 2d artists fault , & the fact that they aren't being posed. The 3d pokemon are just being dropped in. Compare hippotatamus gen 4 sprite to the model. Gamefreak doesn't want to draw 900+ pokemon stylized/ posed and then pay modellers to create them in 3d every gen
